Last May, news broke that Kentucky Wildcats linebacker Chris Oats had suffered an undisclosed medical emergency.
While that condition is not known to the public, he had been photographed several times with family, teammates and coaches in a wheelchair and became the teams’ inspiration on the field.
Tuesday, Oats appeared to have taken a major step forward in his rehab progress, as Sosa Woods tweeted a photo of the UK linebacker standing up for the first time since the beginning of his condition.

Oats arrived at Kentucky in the Summer of 2018 after committing to the Cats as a four-star linebacker from Ohio. He recorded 46 total tackles in 2019 with a forced fumble as a sophomore. As a freshman, he recovered the fumble that clinched the Wildcats’ Citrus Bowl win over Penn State.
His future in football is unclear, but Mark Stoops has mentioned Oats hopes to come back one day. Continue keeping No. 22 in your prayers, and you can also donate to help his family pay the lengthy medical bills they’ve gotten over the last year.
#BBN we are SO close to reaching our goal to help Chris Oats' family pay for his extensive medical bills. Let's make like @UKFootball and FINISH! https://t.co/78BiYVjJwr
