The Kentucky Wildcats entered Saturday in desperate need of a win as they faced off with the LSU Tigers in Rupp Arena.
The Cats got off to a great start as they built a 19-9 lead with just under 14 minutes remaining in the half.
The entire first half may have been the best half this team played all season, as they extended the lead to 32-17 at the under-8 media timeout.
The excellent half continued down the stretch while they logged the most points in a half this season, heading into the locker room with a 49-36 lead.
The start of the second half was rocky for the Cats, as LSU was able to cut the lead to 54-49 forcing Kentucky to take a timeout.
For the second game in a row, the Cats got a good performance from BJ Boston and he was the one that refueled the Cats after the timeout.
He delivered on a series of possessions allowing Kentucky to push the lead back to 64-51 with 10 minutes to play.
The Tigers would make one more run at it cutting the lead to 71-63 with just over six minutes left in the game.
However, the Cats were able to answer the call once again and took control of the game down the stretch on their way to an 82-69 win.

Kentucky has to lead the nation in offensive rebounds surrendered off of missed free throws.

I love the fact we have games like this! Shows signs of hope

Big fan of LSU's press.

Like having Dontaie Allen and BJ Boston on floor at same time

Say what you want but kentucky is the best 5-9 basketball team, ever
— Cam Cheuvront (@CChevs83) January 24, 2021
If you told me Devin Askew would play 33 scoreless minutes and go 0 for 5 from 3 and Kentucky would beat LSU by 15 or 18? No chance I'd buy that.

Double fouls are referee code for “I didn’t really see it and I don’t know what else to do”

BJ Boston was called for a foul on this play. In case you forgot, he’s the guy in the headlock. College refs remain horrendous pic.twitter.com/r7bR9Y22Ey

Wish Reid Travis was around to return the favor that BJ just got.

It’s always fun beating Will Wade!

Shame of Kentucky's season is *this* close to having an interesting resume. Already have wins over Florida and LSU, and are literally three plays away from beating Louisville, Notre Dame and Georgia and sitting at 8-6 overall. Not great. But man, how different it *could* be

Lot of fun, happy to see these young men get a win. Tuesday is going to be tough but I’m riding with them until I die! #BBN

Kentucky has scored 80 points for the first time since they did it against Morehead State in game 1 of the season.
— Big Blue Express (@bigbluexpress) January 24, 2021
Boston looked so so much better but also the team improved a lot on the things we've been struggling on.... turn overs, free throws, assists/sharing the ball, diving the ball...
— Jen (@JenUKFan) January 24, 2021
Good win by @KentuckyMBB tonight! Glad to see BJ Boston get his craft together and show what kind of player he truly is. It’s a 0-0 record mentality from here. 1-0 on the night. Enjoy it, get some rest, pin your ears back and get back to work! #BBN

Brandon Boston Jr. in his first 12 games: 11.5 PPG, 35 FG%, 1.9 TO/game
— Chris Leach (@ChrisLeach__) January 24, 2021
Last two games: 18 PPG, 43 FG%, 0.5 TO/game
Absolutely excellent win for Kentucky over a VERY good team. I’ll continue to believe this team has a chance until the end of the season. Too much talent to think otherwise.
— Brandon Ramsey (@BRamseyKSR) January 24, 2021
Isaiah Jackson had 15 rebounds in 16 minutes. No matter what BJ Boston does the rest of the year, it wouldn't surprise me if Jackson is the first Wildcat to hear his name called in the 2021 NBA Draft.
