After fans clamored for weeks to see Dontaie Allen get more time on the floor, he somehow exceeded expectations and has become Kentucky’s most potent offensive weapon. Those efforts will be rewarded tonight when he gets his first start of his college basketball career against the Georgia Bulldogs.

During the pregame radio show, John Calipari revealed Allen and Lance Ware will start tonight. Allen will be replacing Brandon Boston Jr. in the lineup, while Ware starts at the 4 spot where Keion Brooks Jr. and Isaiah Jackson have started.

Earlier this week, Calipari mentioned that some spots in the starting lineup would be up for grabs. And while there was speculation as to who could be getting the nod, it has turned out to be Allen alongside Ware. This will be Ware’s third start of the season. And while it is unclear whose spot he is taking, it looks like Boston will be coming off the bench tonight in favor of Allen.

Allen has made over 47% of his three-point attempts on the season, and he has averaged nearly 12 points per game over the last five games. In a few of those, he saw minimal minutes in an effort to get Boston going.

Ware has been growing as a player throughout the season as well, and it has been noted that he may have the highest basketball IQ on the team. Since putting up 13 rebounds against Mississippi State earlier this month, Ware has seen only 11 minutes per game.

Both of these guys deserve this opportunity, and hopefully this is the secret lineup Calipari alluded to as being “elite” statistically. We will find out in just a few minutes as the Cats are set to tip off at 7 p.m.

Coincidentally, former Wildcat Dominque Hawkins sent out a nice message of encouragement as Allen makes his first start as a Kentucky Wildcat.

Let’s hope tonight is the start of a fun chapter for this season.
