The Kentucky Wildcats have won a basketball game.
The Cats picked up a much-needed win Saturday as they erased a nine-point second half deficit to take down the Mississippi State Bulldogs 78-73 in a double-overtime classic in Starkville.
Much of the UK comeback came with John Calipari in the locker room, as he was ejected midway through the second half after picking up double technical fouls.
After an outcry from the Big Blue Nation, Kentucky native Dontaie Allen finally received significant playing time, and he made the most of it, shooting a remarkable 7/11 from three and finished the night with 23 points.
Devin Askew also had a strong performance for the Wildcats, as he dropped 11 points while shooting 50% from the field and ran the point with Terrence Clarke out due to injury.
After a horrible start to the season, Kentucky is now 1-0 in 2021 and in SEC play.
With a wild win and Allen’s breakout performance, Twitter was a sight to see. Here are some of the best reactions.

On the bad side of this offense, Kentucky has no posts who can score with either their back to the bucket or facing up. Also, B.J. Boston can’t get to the rim and he has zero shooting confidence right now. @KentuckyRivals— David Sisk (@CoachDavidSisk) January 2, 2021
I know it's counter to all the big boards and NBA thought process, but BJ Boston needs, at minimum, one more year of school.— Derek Terry (@DerekSTerry) January 2, 2021
Could've used that a few times this season. Who knew we had that on the bench?— Tres Terrell (@TerrellTres) January 2, 2021
+/- numbers aren't always telling but right now Askew is a team best +4 and Boston is a team worst -9 and that passes the eye test— Justin Rowland (@RowlandRIVALS) January 2, 2021
Halftime Score: MSU 35, UK 30. Cats still looking to find their stride.— John Huang (@KYHuangs) January 2, 2021
Good news: They're still it.
Bad news: Season hanging by a 20-minute thread.
Opening the second half with a one-on-one BJ Boston play and missed jumper is ... definitely a choice.— Kyle Tucker (@KyleTucker_ATH) January 3, 2021
I get it. Boston’s ceiling is lotto pick high and Cal’s giving him every opportunity to show it. But you can’t have your worst shooter take the most shots. I’m sure he tells him to keep shooting but that’s just gonna get you more losses.— Dan Rieffer (@drieffer) January 3, 2021
Reached the conclusion that Kentucky's best offense is in fact good defense (shout out to the old Tubby Smith Whitaker Bank commercials).— Dale Saltwater (@RoushKSR) January 3, 2021
Joel Justus was fired up for Devin Askew going into that timeout. Joel met him in the middle of the floor to praise him for a play he made.— Shawn Smith (@gbbcountry) January 3, 2021
BJ Boston gotta be up there for me in most disappointing players in CBB this year. He just wants to shoot the ball instead of play real basketball and it’s frustrating to watch— Connor (@CJMPadres23) January 3, 2021
Did BJ hit a mid range? Sheesh— Joe Louis Clark (@C_Clark0318) January 3, 2021

Well hell. Cal got tossed and Kenny Payne is not here to bail the Cats out. #BBN— DJ Otis Badass (@DJOtisBadass) January 3, 2021
So predictable. Even he can’t stomach to watch this garbage!!! He’s smart https://t.co/w7WJ5e9Nc8— Mike Safo (@MikeSafo) January 3, 2021
Hey, your team gets back to six and then you give them what four free throws? That is some solid coaching there. Nice work.— Meisterbuerger (@meisterbuerger) January 3, 2021
If UK comes back and win then it was indeed because Cal got himself thrown out. That's the rule.— Justin Rowland (@RowlandRIVALS) January 3, 2021
Dontaie Allen appears able to make 3s, and on this Kentucky team, that should mean something.— Derek Terry (@DerekSTerry) January 3, 2021

Lance Ware snagged UK's 13th offensive rebound there. He does so much good little stuff. If the guys UK expected to be stars were actually stars, all the role player types are good enough for this to be a fun team.— Kyle Tucker (@KyleTucker_ATH) January 3, 2021
New rule. Only Allen aloud to shoot behind the 3— Maci Morris (@Maci4Mo) January 3, 2021
Kentucky has literally had the best shooter in the gym sitting on the bench all season. Glad he's getting his chance.— Shawn Smith (@gbbcountry) January 3, 2021
Somebody seriously should have suggested putting this Allen kid in. Wow— Big Blue Drew (@BigBlueDrew33) January 3, 2021
Can you imagine if Allen would’ve made that!? Insufferable we’d be.— Dan Rieffer (@drieffer) January 3, 2021

Should be noted that BJ Boston was on the bench for that final possession and to start OT.— Jon Hale (@JonHale_CJ) January 3, 2021
Would that be the case if John Calipari were still coaching?
You literally can't keep Allen off the floor now. HaHa. I love sports.— Big Blue Drew (@BigBlueDrew33) January 3, 2021

BJ Boston was not in for the final possession of regulation, did not play at all in the first OT, and he's not out there now in the second OT. Not sure John Calipari makes that same decision if he's still on the sideline.— Kyle Tucker (@KyleTucker_ATH) January 3, 2021
