Kentucky Wildcats quarterback Nik Scalzo entered the NCAA transfer portal last week.
Now, Scalzo has withdrawn from the portal and will return to Kentucky, according to 247 Sports.
A redshirt freshman this past season, Scalzo signed with Kentucky in the Class of 2019 as the 28th-ranked dual-threat quarterback, per 247 Sports Composite. He played at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Florida, where he tore his ACL in his senior season during the playoffs.
Scalzo would eventually make his way to Lexington, but an ACL tear suffered in a 2019 scrimmage led to him missing that season, as well as 2020 as Kentucky slowly worked him back onto the field.
Now, Scalzo figures to challenge for a backup spot next season, as the starting job is expected to come down to Beau Allen vs. Joey Gatewood. If Scalzo uses the NCAA ruling on a free year of eligibility, he’ll effectively be a redshirt freshman again for the 2021 season.
Scalzo is one of three quarterbacks featured in the Netflix documentary series QB1: Beyond the Lights.
