Fredrick Douglas 2022 four-star wide receiver Dane Key is one of the top targets in his class for the hometown Kentucky Wildcats.
The Wildcats, who have already offered the Lexington star, have been considered the early favorites for the four-star recruit, as the lone predictions in the 247 Sports Crystal Ball and Rivals FutureCast are in favor of the Wildcats.
Dane is the younger brother of current Western Kentucky football player, Devon Key. Their father, Donte, who played football for the Wildcats in the 1990s, is the linebackers coach at the Frederick Douglass program under head coach Nathan McPeek.
Today, Kane’s father gave KSR’s Ryan Lemond an update on his son’s recruitment.
“I’ve had a chance to talk to the coaching staff over there, and we had a really good conversation and I respect what they’ve done and the type of players that they’re getting. So I’ll tell you that Kentucky is on the list,” said Donte.
Kane also has offers from Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, Louisville and Arkansas, among several others. He is ranked as the second-best prospect for 2022 from Kentucky only behind four-star dual-threat quarterback Gavin Wimsatt of Owensboro, who also has a UK offer.
Kentucky has made five straight bowls and enjoyed some all-time program victories under Mark Stoops thanks in part to his ability to keep many of the state’s top recruits. Will Key be the latest in-state product to become a Wildcat?
