After the Kentucky Wildcats’ drubbing over rival Florida last Saturday, and previously beating Vanderbilt that Tuesday, the Wildcats got some recognition from the NCAA and Andy Katz by being named Team of the Week.
To go along with being named national team of the week? Kentucky clocked in at No. 29 in Andy Katz’ Power 36 poll.
A 4-6 team was ranked at No. 29, can you believe that?
And to no fault of their own. The 1-6 start was porous, but it’s finally looking like the Cats may be back after a three-game winning streak and an 18-point blowout over one of the projected teams to be atop the SEC.
While it’s nice to see Kentucky finally getting some positive recognition, the reality is there’s still much work to be done if this team is going to make the NCAA Tournament. As of Monday, the Wildcats are ranked 88th in NET, so there’s still a big hill to climb to get onto the right side of the bubble.
Now, Kentucky hosts Alabama for a chance to take sole possession of first place in the conference.
Even more incredible? Kentucky still wouldn’t have a winning record if they beat the Crimson Tide on Tuesday.
I think some of the more nationally prominent college hoops writers are starting to get back on board the Kentucky train.
