Saturday was cutdown day for NFL teams as they had to get their rosters down to the 53-man limit before 4 pm EST.
One of the biggest moves of the day was when the Las Vegas Raiders traded former Kentucky Wildcats’ star Lynn Bowden and a 2021 sixth-round pick to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a fourth-round pick.
Bowden was taken in the third-round of the 2020 draft by the Raiders and they were planning on playing him at running back. However, after it was reported that Bowden struggled in pass blocking, the Raiders decided to make a move.
The Dolphins on the other hand intend to use Bowden at wide receiver which is where he should thrive in the NFL. Get him the ball and let him make plays.
“I’m excited about both Lynn and Malcolm (Perry) from a talent standpoint,” Brian Flores said on Monday, via the Miami Herald. “Tough, competitive guys. We did a lot of work on Lynn pre-draft and when the trade was an option, we did a lot more work.”
“We’re excited about having him join our team. There’s a lot he’s going to have to learn. He’s not going to jump out and start playing. He has to learn how we do things. He’s got a lot to learn and [that takes] a little bit of time. We’re excited to have him.”
During Bowden’s time at Kentucky, he spent most of it playing wide receiver until the injury bug hit the Cats in 2019 and led to Bowden playing quarterback. He led the Cats to an 8-5 record and finished his Kentucky career with 1,468 rushing yards, 1,303 receiving yards, 495 passing yards, and 19 total touchdowns.
I believe that the move from the Raider to the Dolphins will be an all around positive for Bowden, as he will now be able to play wide receiver, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him taking snaps out of the Wildcat. Hopefully, he has found his NFL home and will have a long a successful career.
