Kentucky reaches out to 5-star forward Mark Mitchell Jr.

Mitchell already holds offers from North Carolina and Kansas.

While John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats are still hard at work in putting together the recruiting class of 2021, they continue to forge ahead with future recruits. The newest player in the class of 2022 to hear from Kentucky is small forward Mark Mitchell Jr.

David Sisk reported that Joel Justice first reached out to Mitchell on Tuesday, and Mitchell said the two are starting to form a relationship. According to the 247 Sports Composite, Mitchell is the No. 13 player in the 2022 class, the No. 1 player in Kansas, and the No. 5 small forward.

Kentucky has struggled to land dynamic wing players under John Calipari. BJ Boston very well may change that paradigm this season, but moving forward it has to be a priority to land small forward at a school known for developing NBA all-star big men and guards.

Then again, being as how Mitchell is just entering his junior year and already weighs in at 6-8 and 205 pounds, he could end up being a combo forward who plays the 3 and 4 spots in college. Kentucky has had more success recruiting and developing those types of forwards.

Mitchell currently has offers from North Carolina, Texas, Kansas, Kansas State, UCLA, USC, Oklahoma State, and Wake Forest.

Despite being a Kansas native, there seems to be no early favorite in Mitchell’s recruitment with no predictions logged at 247 Sports or Rivals. In the meantime, check out some of his sophomore season highlights:
