It won’t be long until the 2020-21 college basketball season is here.
In the meantime, the Kentucky Wildcats have unveiled the 2020-21 men’s basketball roster, which includes official heights and weights. All of the players also have their official headshots at UK Athletics.
One thing that immediately stands out is the size of this team. Terrence Clarke and Brandon Boston both measure in at 6-7 and will likely be starting at the 2 and 3. Devin Askew and Davion Mintz, who are competing for the starting point guard spot, both measure in at 6-3, so this should be one of, if not the tallest starting backcourt Kentucky has had under John Calipari.
The biggest player on the team is center Olivier Sarr, who measures in at 7-0 and 243 pounds. He’s actually dropped weight since the beginning of his junior season at Wake Forest when he weighed 255 pounds. It’s still unclear if the SEC will allow him to play this season.
The next tallest player is Isaiah Jackson at 6-10. He’s a little thin at 205 pounds, so a full year with strength coach Rob Harris could do wonders for the freshman forward.
The only other player that’s over 6-7 and expected to play this season is Lance Ware, who weighs in at 6-9 and 223 pounds. Jacob Toppin is also 6-9 but is expected to redshirt following his transfer from Rhode Island.
Kentucky’s lone returning scholarship player who logged minutes last season is Keion Brooks Jr., who still weighs in at 6-7 and 205 pounds. I wouldn’t read too much into there not being much change. He probably dropped some fat and gained some muscle this offseason as he looks to be a more effective combo forward that can play both the 3 and 4 spots at a high level.
Dontaie Allen is actually down two pounds to 198 from what he was last season during his redshirt freshman season.
