Finally, Kentucky Football will return this Saturday. Due to the nation-wide pandemic caused by COVID-19, the SEC season was delayed and re-formatted to an all-conference schedule. After three weeks of an official NCAA Football season, the Kentucky Wildcats are still ranked No. 23 in the country without playing a game.
On Saturday, they’ll put their ranking on the line as they kick off their season at No. 8 ranked Auburn. The Tigers have opened as -10.5 favorites, but a few college football analysts are making the case for an upset alert.
It’s been over a year since quarterback Terry Wilson took an in-game snap, as he suffered a season-ending knee injury early last September. This weekend, he’ll return to leading the Wildcats and look to pull off a substantial upset.
While All-SEC star Lynn Bowden is now playing in the NFL, Kentucky will look to rising offensive weapons to step up and shoulder the massive load once carried (literally) by Bowden. A committee of running backs, as well as dynamic pass catchers, will be at Wilson’s disposal.
As for the defensive side of the football, this could be the best unit head coach Mark Stoops has had at Kentucky. While the Wildcats’ 2018 unit was historically excellent, there’s plenty of upside for this year’s team.
Auburn is loaded too, though, and wouldn’t surprise anyone with a victory on Saturday. After all, they are the 8th-ranked team in the country and have an absolute stud at quarterback. However, the game is anyone’s for the taking on Saturday.
