The Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz concluded their best-of-seven game series on Wednesday night, with only one team allowed to advance past the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
As former Kentucky Wildcat Jamal Murray (Denver) and former Louisville Cardinal Donovan Mitchell (Utah) went back and forth each game, we were gifted one of the better NBA Playoff series we’ve ever seen.
It wasn’t a Conference Finals or NBA Finals, but the total seven games are right there with the 2013 Heat-Spurs, 1984 Celtics-Lakers, 1997 Bulls-Jazz, 2005 Pistons-Spurs and 2009 Bulls-Celtics.
So many points, swings, clutch shots and inspirational moments that went for so much more than the game of basketball itself. It’s not quite a rivalry like Bird-Magic or Thomas-Jordan, but Mitchell and Murray certainly have many years ahead of them which they’ll have the opportunity to go head-to-head.
Both are special players in their own right and have the talent to potentially reach the Hall of Fame. If they can both keep playing like they did during the NBA Bubble, we’re in for a real treat for years to come.
As for now, Mitchell will return to Utah while Murray advances to play the L.A. Clippers in the second round of the NBA Playoffs.
