On Thursday evening, the NCAA announced that the “recruiting dead period” is being extended through January 1st, 2021. This means all college coaches will not be permitted to have any in-person contact for recruiting through the remainder of the year.
While Kentucky and their staff have been in this situation since March, it’s still not the greatest news to know that there won’t be any in-person recruiting efforts for the rest of 2020. With no apparent answer for COVID-19 in the foreseeable future, this could also linger into 2021.
The good news here is the NCAA appears to be taking this one step at a time and has left the door open for in-person recruiting to resume early 2021. Whether that actually happens or not is a much different story, but at least it remains a possibility at this point.
The safety of both program staffs as well as recruits and their families is the top priority here. And while everyone prefers in-person recruiting, the process can indeed be completed thanks to how advanced we are with technology.
It’s not exactly the news Kentucky was wanting to hear, but certainly news they had to expect was coming. More updates to follow as we near the end of 2020.
