2020 NBA Draft officially rescheduled for November 18

Let’s hope it doesn’t get pushed back for a third time.

The Kentucky Wildcats are sending all five starters from a year ago to the 2020 NBA Draft. While only highly-touted point guard Tyrese Maxey is a projected first-round selection, the Cats could have four players selected within the 60-pick draft.

From June to October to now November, the draft has continued to be pushed back. However, it is now confirmed that the third date for the draft is November 18, 2020 per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

“The National Basketball Association announced today that the date of NBA Draft 2020 presented by State Farm has been moved to Wednesday, Nov. 18 and will air on ESPN. The date remains subject to change as circumstances warrant.

The revised date allows additional time to conduct the 2020 pre-draft process, gather more information about the potential start date for the 2020-21 season and advance conversations between the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association regarding related Collective Bargaining Agreement matters,” an official release said.

October 16 was the first announced reschedule date.

Obviously it was initially delayed due to the coronavirus as the league was suspended for over four months. The second delay may partially be due to the unknown cap fluctuations that have to be worked around by the teams, as noted in the release.

The hopefully league restart date is December 25.

That date seems unlikely as the team would also need to cram free agency between those two events, about a 35-day period. The NBA has already noted they won’t be starting before Christmas Day, a holiday typically dominated by elite NBA action.

In a recent mock draft by Jonathan Givony, a NBA Draft analyst for ESPN, Maxey was ranked as the 16th-best prospect with Immanuel Quickley, Ashton Hagans and Nick Richard all coming in the top 60.

The only name left off the board is EJ Montgomery, whose exodus is still somewhat shocking.
