As Eddie Gran started his press conference this afternoon, everyone once again was anticipating to hear this week’s version of “make me play you”. Well he once again brought the praise for several players who have continued to impress this fall.

If you have been following fall camp this year, then you know that these are the three names that continue to pop up week in and week out. He also once again mentioned and praised the work ethic that he sees out of the three but in particular JuTahn McClain.

With game week approaching, a depth chart is getting closer and closer to being released. It sounds like that especially in the cases of DeMarcus Harris and Bryce Oliver. We very well could be seeing them fall into that first team once it’s released next week.

For a position that didn’t get to produce much last season, it’s really encouraging to see the OC continually praise underclassmen in those spots, especially in a schedule as tough as this one. We will need guys ready to make an impact early and often.

An interesting one for me to see is how McClain fits in to the rotation that already features three solid backs in Rose, Smoke, and Rodriquez JR.

“He’s a guy that everyday he brings it,” Gran said of McClain. “He’s a guy that could be tough to leave off the field. We’ll see how it goes. It’s ten long games. Some of these freshmen now, they hit a wall and you can see some of them coming out of it now. We’ll continue to just keep practicing them and see how far along they come.”

Once again some high praise for McClain coming from his OC.

You can see here in the highlight video from the scrimmage this last weekend him catching several passes out of the backfield, as well as trying to bounce some outside. Will we see him and AJ Rose be those guys on passing downs? Or has he broken ahead of one of the other guys that are in the rotation?

Whatever has happened, I think it is fair to say that McClain will be making some big plays on the field as we make our way down to Jordan Hare in 10 days.

We are almost to the finish line folks. Go Cats!
