Big Ten set to cancel fall football season

It was inevitable.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: NOV 23 Michigan at Indiana

We’re about to have our first major conference cancel its 2020 football season due to the coronavirus.

According to multiple media reports, the Big Ten is set to announce it will cancel its football season.

This was a move brewing this weekend as it became painfully clear that college football was in jeopardy of being shut down after the MAC became the first FBS conference to call off fall sports.

Now that a Power 5 conference is set to scrap its season, it’s likely only a matter of time until others follow suit.

Saying this, I wouldn’t be surprised if one or more Power 5 leagues proceed with fall camp and attempt to have a season. It would likely be with the goal of having just conference games and maybe a conference title game.

But I’d be very surprised if we actually see any college football games played this fall. Here’s to hoping they can put together some kind of spring season ‘if’ it’s safer to play football then.
