Another big transfer gets waiver to play this season

Could be good news for Gatewood and Sarr.

NCAA Football: Alabama at Auburn John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Alabama transfer and brother to Tua Tagovailoa, Taulia Tagovailoa, has been granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA to play this season at Maryland.

Taulia spent this past season as a freshman at Alabama, getting minimal playing time behind Tua and Mac Jones, and he eventually transferred out of the program due to playing time.

This could be seen as good news for two Kentucky Wildcats in Joey Gatewood and Olivier Sarr, who are still currently waiting their approval of their transfer waiver.

And in Sarr’s case, he may have the best case of any transfer in the country, as he did not transfer for playing time, but because his coach was fired, and he no time to declare for the NBA Draft during the original deadline.

At this point, the NCAA has to declare both Gatewood and Sarr eligible due to the sheer number of transfer waivers being approved that (technically) don’t fit the criteria for approval.

Unfortunately, leaving any decision to the NCAA is a risk in itself and they can’t be trusted to always make the right decision, so it’s a guessing game.
