Kentucky Wildcats Deputy Director of Athletics, DeWayne Peevy is a “very strong candidate” for the vacant DePaul Athletic Director job, according to Justin Rowland of Rivals.
If Peevy were to leave, Kentucky would be losing a key player in their athletics department, and someone whom John Calipari trusts very much behind the scenes.
Even just recently, Peevy was tabbed as one of the SEC’s ‘Behind-The-Scenes-Power-Players” by AL.com. He was even a finalist for the UCF AD opening back in 2015.
Of course, hearing that Peevy is a strong candidate for a Big East school’s AD position should not be a surprise for Kentucky fans, as Peevy has proven his worth time and time again while serving under current AD Mitch Barnhart, so it was really just a matter of time that a big-time school came calling for Peevy.
And with Peevy’s work alongside the basketball program here in Lexington, he could help DePaul elevate their program, a program that started last season 12-1 with big wins over Iowa and Texas Tech, and No. 5 Butler, alongside a win in the Big East tournament.
The dream scenario would be for Peevy to stay in Lexington and take over after Barnhart retires or decides to leave Kentucky, but when a good opportunity comes knocking, you can’t wait around.
If Peevy is offered and, ultimately decides to take the job, we should all wish him well and thank him for his tremendous service to the university and athletic departments.
