University of Kentucky golfer and Lyon County native Cullan Brown passed away Tuesday evening in the company of his loved ones following a lengthy battle with cancer. Brown’s personality and spirit during difficult times left a lasting impression on all who met him and knew him.
Brown entered the University of Kentucky in 2018 following a decorated high school career at Lyon County High School in western Kentucky, where he was the KHSAA individual state champion in 2016 and was the state runner-up in 2015 and 2017.
In his freshman season, Brown was named to the All-SEC Freshman team and garnered four top-20 finishes.
Below are a few tweets about Brown and the impact he had on others. These messages provide a glimpse into the type of person that he was for many of us who never had the pleasure of knowing him.
I’ll also use some of the links below to share articles and stories written about Cullan, as well as a video.

I’ve done this job for more than 20 years, and Cullan Brown is the only kid I’ve covered who has ever invited me to their graduation. It meant a lot then, and means even more now, especially as I look back at his speech from that night. #PrayForCullan https://t.co/3JHykWXigB— Jeff Bidwell (@AKAJeffBidwell) August 5, 2020
Who asks the media to be in their picture when they sign to play college golf? Cullan Brown turned the tables on all of us and had us join him at his signing table for a picture on the day he signed with UK. RIP, Cullan. https://t.co/RSrPic2zCB— Todd Griffin (@toddgriffin100) August 5, 2020

We recruited Cullan and faced off with him in the SEC Semi-Finals in 2019. With an ACT score higher than his 9-Hole average, he was the epitome of a student-athlete. pic.twitter.com/3EJ0MtapKb
Larry Vaught shares some stories about meeting Cullan Brown.
A great audio clip of Cullan talking about his experience.
This clip is almost a year old but worth watching.
The Kentucky baseball player showed how much talent he has already.
Worth a watch if you haven’t yet.
But no EJ Montgomery.
That’s one name for it.
The incident has caused a lot of unrest among the TCU football community.
