5 former Wildcats listed in top 100 NBA Draft prospects

But which will they hear their name called on draft night?

Since NBA Combine invitations went out a few weeks ago, sports “experts” have been trying to figure out what to make of the list of potential draft candidates. And without a date for the actual NBA Draft Combine, there will continue to be speculation leading up to a time when executives are again permitted to see draft-eligible players work out.

ESPN recently re-ranked players eligible for the NBA Draft, and five former Kentucky Wildcats landed in the top 100. Is it the same that received NBA Draft Combine invites? Yes, but ESPN make it clear that only one Wildcat is on the verge of being a first round selection.

Wildcats in the ESPN Top 100 NBA Draft prospects

  • 15. Tyrese Maxey
  • 51. Immanuel Quickley
  • 53. Ashton Hagans
  • 57. Nick Richards
  • No. 68 Kahlil Whitney

Immanuel Quickley is the reigning SEC Player of the Year and has a case as the most improved player in the country. And if he has the opportunity to display his skills to NBA scouts, he may move up the board. He has an invitation to the NBA Draft Combine, so hopefully he will get the chance to display his talent.

Nick Richards’ story is similar, in that his stock is so much higher than it would have been a year ago. But will he be able to get a team to pick him on the potential of another giant leap in performance?

Also of note is the absence of EJ Montgomery, which is almost as surprising as the inclusion of Kahlil Whitney, who bailed midway through the season.

If there is an NBA Draft Combine that actually takes place, these numbers could be shaken up quite a bit. But as things stand now, ESPN’s ranking feels accurate based on what we know of the draft-eligible players out there. Read more about their player rankings here.
