It looks like the Kentucky Wildcats have some work to do if they want to keep Joko Willis in the fold for the 2021 class.
On Monday, Willis tweeted that his recruitment was “100% open,” which led to speculation he’d decommitted from Kentucky. However, Willis later clarified that he did not decommit.

Willis, who plays at Independence Community College in Kansas, is ranked 26th among JUCO recruits by 247 Sports in addition to being the third-best inside linebacker. He committed to Kentucky in May over the Kansas State Wildcats, Mississippi St. Bulldogs and Arkansas Razorbacks.
The former three-star recruit originally played at Troup County High School in Georgia. As a Class of 2019 recruit, Willis was the 52nd-best inside linebacker and held offers from Kentucky, Arkansas, Maryland, Texas A&M and Syracuse among others.
This year, Willis is a redshirt freshman who will have three seasons of eligibility at his next college. The lead recruiter for Willis was inside linebackers coach Jon Sumrall.
You can’t fault any recruit for wanting to enjoy the recruiting process and garner as much interest from as many schools as possible. Hopefully, Willis is just trying to enjoy the process and still plans to be at Kentucky next year. He’s a very important piece to this defense, which is already thin at linebacker and could lose DeAndre Square to the NFL in 2021.
