Big Blue Nation was stunned with the departure of longtime Kentucky Wildcats assistant coach Kenny Payne. After years of being the right hand man of John Calipari, Payne moved on to a new challenge with the New York Knicks.
Calipari didn’t waste much time filling the spot. He reached out to his old friend and colleague Bruiser Flint. Flint coached with Cal at UMass and eventually took over as head coach when Calipari went to the New Jersey Nets. Flint then ended up at Drexel and his last spot was with Archie Miller and the Indiana Hoosiers.
Flint took some time yesterday to chat with Andy Sweeney and I on the take. It was a fun interview and Flint was good natured and engaging.
We discussed the new gentle and kind John Calipari, wading through COVID with the basketball team, his argument with Archie Miller that was caught on camera, and much more.
Kentucky’s recruiting has once again ramped up and I don’t think it’s a coincidence with the addition of Flint and the impending addition of Jai Lucas.
