A bold statement.

With COVID-19 still spreading rapidly throughout the United States, the 2020 College Football season is very much in question.

Many coaches, athletic directors and conference commissioners have voiced extreme pessimism when discussing the chances a season takes place, some FCS conferences have canceled their fall sports and the Big Ten and Pac-12 have announced they will stick to conference play exclusively.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach Brian Kelly has a different opinion. In an interview on ESPN’s Get Up Kelly all but guaranteed there’d be a 2020 college football season.

“We’re going to play football this year,” Kelly told ESPN. “It just depends when we’re going to play football.”

Notre Dame is one of the FBS’ independent programs and had games with Wisconsin, Stanford and USC on their schedule that now will be canceled.

Despite this and the spread of the virus, Kelly is confident, which may say a lot about the urgency for college programs to have a season due to the potential finical implications of a cancellation.
