Early Wednesday morning, Sam Vecenie of The Athletic released an article discussing the UK’s NBA Draft hopefuls.
Much of the article featured anonymous college coaches slamming the Wildcats, especially when it came to point guard Ashton Hagans.
“Don’t even get me started on Hagans. I think he’s trash (as a player). I just don’t think he’s very good,” the coach said.
I’ll remind you that Kentucky was 47-11 over the last 58 games in which Hagans started, including a trip to the 2019 Elite Eight, a 2020 SEC regular-season championship, a 2-0 record vs. Louisville, and wins vs. Kansas, North Carolina, Michigan State and at Texas Tech.
So yeah, I’d say Hagans was a little better than ‘trash,’ but what do I know.
Someone who definitely knows what’s up is UK assistant coach Joel Justus, who had the absolute perfect response to these anonymous haters.
Loved reading @Sam_Vecenie article today in the @TheAthletic / lots of “tough guy coaches” and expert opinions...and very few W’s. #tgt #whowantstobenext #getinthering
