The recruitment of Jonathan Kuminga is finally nearing its end.
On Friday, the five-star forward and consensus top-five recruit announced he would make his decision on Thursday, July 16th. His finalists include the Kentucky Wildcats, Duke Blue Devils, Auburn Tigers, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and the G-League.
As of now, the majority of recruiting experts expect Kuminga, who plays at The Patrick School in New Jersey, to wind up in the G-League. If he goes to college, Texas Tech is the presumed favorite with Auburn right behind them. Duke and Kentucky are not seen as realistic landing spots.
His brother, Joel Ntambwe, will be a redshirt sophomore at Texas Tech next season, which is a big reason why the Red Raiders have been viewed as the favorites ‘if’ Kuminga attends a college.
But again, going pro is the expectation. And with the coronavirus threatening to wipe out the 2020-21 college basketball season, it’s become even easier for Kuminga to ultimately decide he’ll skip college altogether and start getting paid to hoop now.
Currently a Class of 2021 recruit, Kuminga is the consensus No. 1 overall prospect in 2021, though he’s widely expected to reclassify and either be in college or the G-League next season. ESPN already has him ranked fourth in the Class of 2020.
Where do you think Kuminga will land?
I will anounce where I am going to play next year on thursday july 16th at 2pm East.
