Former Wildcat Zack Thompson added to St. Louis Roster

Big news for the former UK pitcher.

As it seems that college football and even college basketball might be a big doubt in the coming months, the MLB has some other ideas.

With teams being tested and camps starting to pick up, a former UK pitcher is starting to make a big name for himself early on in his career.

Former Kentucky Wildcats pitcher Zack Thompson was added to the Cardinals’ roster this week.

Thompson, drafted 19th overall by the Cardinals in the 2019 draft, has had a short career this far, but he has posted a 3.52 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP in 15.1 IP, as well as posting 23 strikeouts to only 4 BB’s.

With comparisons to Mets pitcher Michael Wacha, who made his debut within 12 months of his draft day with the Cardinals, it’s obvious that if the front office in St. Louis sees a prospect they like they are willing to go for it. Also, I think it is worth noting he was added only weeks away from opening day.

Could it just be to see him in some inter-squad situations? Possibly. But it’s normally a good thing to still be in consideration pressing up on opening day.

Will we see Thompson make the opening day roster? Here is a good story line for the BBN to follow as we wait on what will happen with college football.

From myself and all of BBN, let’s hope we get to see Zack in action come opening day!
