Willie Cauley-Stein won’t be suiting up when the NBA restarts its season in July, and for good reason.
According to Yahoo Sports reporter Sham Charania, Cauley-Stein plans to sit out of the restart as he’s expecting a child to be born in July.
Mavericks center Willie Cauley-Stein has decided to sit out the resumed NBA season, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium. Cauley-Stein and his partner are expecting a newborn child in July.

Cauley-Stein is currently a member of the Dallas Mavericks, who have already signed free agent Trey Burke to fill the vacant roster spot. The Mavericks acquired Cauley-Stein in a trade with the Golden State Warriors in January.
In 54 games this past season (39 starts), the former Wildcat recorded 7.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 1.3 assists per game. Dallas is poised to make the playoffs, but Cauley-Stein is rightfully choosing family over hoops with COVID-19 still spreading like wildfire in America.
Here’s to hoping Cauley-Stein and his partner welcome a healthy baby into the world later this summer.
