While the Kentucky Wildcats do not yet have a commitment for their 2021 recruiting class, they’re already getting some early work done on their 2022 options.

Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers reported last week that Kentucky has reached out to five-star 2022 shooting guard Dariq Whitehead. He is the younger brother of Oakland Raiders linebacker Tahir Whitehead.

The 6-5, 190-pound Whitehead is ranked as the fourth-best shooting guard for 2022 by 247 Sports and 14th overall in their composite rankings. He is originally from Newark, New Jersey, but last December, transferred to Montverde Academy in Florida. He has been a participant in multiple USA Basketball Junior National Team camps.

Whitehead already holds offers from the Auburn Tigers, Memphis Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Maryland Terrapins and Texas Longhorns, among several others. There are currently no 247 Crystal Ball projections or Rivals FutureCasts yet logged for him, as it’s still very early in his recruitment.

It’s unclear what Kentucky’s level of interest is in landing Whitehead, but it comes as no surprise that they have at least reached out to the talented guard.
