Jewell is a rising big man who has caught the eye of Kentucky’s coaching staff.

Now that college coaches can contact 2022 recruits, the Kentucky coaching staff is hard at work to lay the foundation for another top-ranked recruiting class.

One of the top prospects in the Bluegrass State is James Jewell, who Joel Justus reached out to on Monday, according to KSR’s Jack Pilgrim.

Jewell, who plays for Eastern High School in Louisville, does not currently have a recruiting ranking in any of the major services. Part of that is Jewell being a Class of 2022 recruit, so he’s still far away from landing on a college campus. He did take an unofficial visit to Kentucky for Big Blue Madness last year.

The 6-7 power forward, who plays for Manimal Elite on the Adidas Gauntlet AAU circuit, has also drawn interest from Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, Morehead State, Xavier, Murray State, and Western Kentucky, while North Texas offered him a scholarship this week.

It’s still very early in Jewell’s recruitment, but he’ll be one of the most intriguing in-state prospects to watch for in the coming years, and Kentucky will be keeping tabs on his progression.

Here are some highlights of Jewell in action (WARNING: bottom video contains NSFW language):
