Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers reports that John Calipari and the entire Kentucky coaching staff hosted a virtual visit with Kennedy Chandler and his both of his parents on Saturday.

Chandler is the top-rated 2021 point guard in the country by the 247 Sports Composite rankings. His game is silky smooth and it’s clear that UK is making him a priority.

At 6-1, 160 pounds, Chandler doesn’t have intimidating size at the guard position, but he can do a little bit of everything and has earned the reputation as one of the best floor generals in his class.

There is no doubt that when he makes a college decision other top players will follow behind him. It has been long rumored that Chandler is interested in teaming up with Paolo Banchero, another five-star elite prospect on the Cats’ radar.

Earlier this month Chandler wrote a blog entry for SI.com and addressed the speculation of the package deal rumblings.

“I know that people are talking about me and my guy Paolo (Banchero) being maybe a package deal and teaming up in college too. I would love to play with him in college, and if the school that we both feel is right for us happens to be the same school then that’s great.

But we have to do what’s best for us first, and maybe that will be the same school.

Too early to tell right now.”

COVID-19 has presented tremendous challenges for college athletics as a whole, and everyone has been forced to adapt. That being said, these virtual visits becoming a lot more streamlined has created an environment where larger groups of people can connect easily.

It’s impactful when John Calipari can get his entire coaching staff to meet with the nation’s top point guard and his parents on a holiday weekend. This type of interaction will just be the new norm, especially for the members of the 2021 class where recruiting implications from COVID-19 will be felt most immediately.

If the Cats can get a commitment from Kennedy Chandler, it would put them right back in the driver’s seat for the No. 1 recruiting class in America for 2021.
