The NCAA extended the dead period for recruiting through the end of June earlier this week, but that has not stopped coaches from firing up Zoom and reaching out to athletes and their families. Kentucky Basketball has been hot on the trail of several 2021 recruits, and John Calipari spoke to one of the best on Thursday.
According to Jake Weingarten from Stockrisers.com, Coach Cal spoke to 2021 point guard Kennedy Chandler on Thursday afternoon.

Weingarten also reported that Penny Hardaway from Memphis had met with Chandler on Wednesday, potentially setting up another Memphis-Kentucky battle for a player originally from Memphis.
Unlike recent recruits that Penny landed over Calipari from Memphis, Chandler does not play for the high school where Penny used to coach. Chandler plays for Briarcrest Christian and has worked his way up to being the No. 2 point guard in the 2021 class, according to the 247 Sports Composite.
Most of John Calipari’s best classes started with a commitment from a point guard. Chandler would be an excellent piece to build around for next season. However, even though Penny and Calipari have been able to talk to Chandler recently, the Tennessee Volunteers seem to have a lot of momentum in his recruitment. He is also considering the Duke Blue Devils and North Carolina Tar Heels.
Will Coach Cal be able to go into Tennessee and steal a top recruit? You can find out here at A Sea of Blue as his recruitment develops.
