Frank Anselem cuts list and includes Kentucky

This recruitment seems to be heading the right direction.

Frank Anselem does not have the typical profile of a Kentucky Basketball recruit. But given the needs of the 2020-2021 roster, he may be exactly what the Wildcats need.

John Calipari seems to think so, as he has made the Georgia native a priority for finishing off the 2020 class.

Now, Anselem has announced his list of finalists, and Kentucky made the cut.

Anselem is the No. 85 overall player in the 2020 class, according to 247 Sports Composite. The four-star big man has primarily been recruited by SEC schools, but he did hold offers from Arizona and Kansas.

Now it seems like Kentucky has a lot of momentum.

Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers.com recently tweeted that, “I believe the interest between Kentucky and Frank Anselem are very real. The four-star senior told @Stockrisers this afternoon that he spoke with the staff and the interest for him is ‘heavy’.”

Since then, Kentucky has picked up four predictions for Anselem in the Rivals FutureCast.

At 6-10, 220, Anselem provides a big body to complement the athletic bigs that are already headed to Lexington this fall. He also brings depth in the frontcourt, which was obviously lacking on this roster.

Anselem, who has reclassified from the 2021 class, has been clear about his plan to find a place to grow and develop over a few years. He has no intention of being a one-and-done player. In theory, that should make a large chunk of the fan base happy since there’s been an outcry for more multi-year players recently, and for good reason.

There is no timeline for a decision from Anselem. But given the prospect of the new “one time transfer” rule passing next month, he may be wise to make this choice before Coach Cal gets a whole nation of new options.
