With every college basketball offseason comes the transfer portal and with high quality players looking to make moves to other programs.
Jeff Borzello from ESPN decided to make a ranking of the top players in the portal.
The #1 transfer is Carlik Jones, a point guard from Radford who is currently committed to play for the Louisville Cardinals.
Right down from Jones at #3 is Matt Haarms from Purdue. The 7-3 center heard from over 25 schools, including the Kentucky Wildcats, after he announced he was going to transfer.
“Haarms heard from more than 25 schools within hours of entering the portal. He started 41 games over the past three seasons and is an elite shot-blocker. Averaged 8.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.0 blocks last season.”
He put up those stats in just 20 minutes per game, so think about how they would go up if he didn’t have to share time with another skilled big like he did at Purdue.
Haarms recently said he wanted to go to a school where he could show a “NBA ready skillset,” and what better place to do that than Lexington?
Also high on the list is former Kentucky guard Johnny Juzang who came in as the #6 sit-out transfer to be eligible for the 2021-22 season.
“A top-30 recruit in 2019, Juzang didn’t carve out a consistent role at Kentucky before leaving. Had the reputation of a shooter coming out of high school. Is down to Arizona, Notre Dame, Oregon, Texas Tech, UCLA and Villanova.”
