On Thursday, it was reported that Kentucky has officially contacted Frank Anselem as being a potential big to help add frontcourt depth for the 2020 class.
Anselem is a 4-star and is listed as the No. 85 overall player and No. 15 center for 2020. The 6-10 220-pound center once heavily favored to pick LSU, but things have opened up, and this one is wide open with Kentucky trying to get in the mix.
Ben Roberts of Kentucky.com talked with Julius Smith, who coached Anselem with the Georgia Stars Nike league program and is helping him through this process.
In that interview, Smith mentioned a former Kentucky player that talked to Anselem and praised Kentucky. Hearing positive things from someone who lived it can only help in a recruitment and it is kind of shocking who contacted him considering the way the 2019-20 season ended.
Smith said that Ashton Hagans contacted Anselem to put in a good word for Kentucky and let him know what he can expect if he decides to go to Lexington.
“Ashton loves Kentucky, loves the coaching staff, loves the development,” Smith said. “Ashton has spoken to Frank and told Frank that it’s a great place that he’ll go and develop. It’s just high pressure, high stress, and you have to be mentally prepared for that.”
Despite a rough end to the college career of Hagans, it is obvious that he really enjoyed his time in Lexington and playing in front of the BBN since he is willing to contact a recruit and put in a good word for Kentucky and playing for coach Cal and his staff.
