UK contacts Efton Reid, a potential reclass candidate

A new name to watch for next season?

The Kentucky Wildcats coaching staff reached out to top-25 recruit Efton Reid on Wednesday, according to Rivals recruiting analyst Clint Jackson.

Reid, who currently is a 2021 prospect, is a new name to keep an eye on as the Wildcats look to fill out next season’s roster. Back in December, Reid told Stock Risers’ Jake Weingarten that moving into the 2020 class was a possibility.

“Yeah, there’s been some thoughts about possibly going into the 2020 class,” said Reid.

The 6-11 power forward from Richmond (VA) is ranked as the No. 20 overall player by 247 Sports Composite. He holds offers from the Louisville Cardinals, Virginia Cavaliers, Ohio State Buckeyes and Maryland Terrapins among others.

As of this moment, it’s hard to gauge how interested the Wildcats are in the five-star recruit, or if he’s even a realistic option for next season. But seeing as how Kentucky reached out to Reid on the same day it became evident Matt Haarms wasn’t coming to Lexington is a little suspicious.

For what it’s worth, 247 Sports compares Reid to former UCLA center Moses Brown and projects him as a future second-round NBA Draft pick.

Has NBA center size. Game is skill based and not athletically based. Has good footwork and touch in post. Can stretch defense to three-point line. Comfortable with the ball as a passer. Has good hands and rebounds his area. Not a big shot blocker. Positional defender inside. Needs to improve quickness to defend on perimeter.
