UNLV grad transfer Amauri Hardy has committed to the Oregon Ducks, he announced Sunday.
Hardy was the first known grad transfer that UK contact this offseason, as the Wildcats were in desperate need of backcourt depth, not to mention a veteran who could help bring along young guards like Devin Askew, Terrence Clarke and Brandon Boston next season.
Ultimately, John Calipari and his staff felt that Creighton grad transfer Davion Mintz was the best man for what they needed. Mintz committed to UK on Friday, seemingly ending UK’s pursuit of any other guards for next season.
Even when UK contacted Hardy, the belief was he’d ultimately stay on the West Coast, and Oregon ended up being the winner.
Hardy averaged 14.5 points and 3.5 assists per game for UNLV this past season. Other schools that reached out included Michigan State, Memphis, Arizona, Maryland and Arkansas.
Now, the question is will this affect the recruitment of his brother, Jaden Hardy, one of the top recruits in the Class of 2021. Jaden has also been viewed as a strong UK lean, so it will be interesting to see if his brother being at Oregon will put the Ducks in better position to land the top-10 recruit.
