As the regular season winds down, Dontaie Allen has yet to play for the Kentucky Wildcats.
The freshman guard from Pendleton County has been practicing for several months now while recovering from a broken collarbone and torn ACL, but he has yet to log a minute of game action.
In early February, John Calipari made some remarks that suggested Allen could still play this season. But to this point, it’s yet to happen.
Prior to today’s game vs. Florida, it was revealed that Ashton Hagans would be out due to personal reasons. Not long after that news broke, Calipari revealed that it’s possible Allen could play.
Calipari says on pregame show that, since Cats are down to 7 guys now, he may ask Dontaie Allen if he wants to play today. He doesn’t want the kid to burn a redshirt year, though. I would say that’s highly unlikely, barring a more serious issue today.

It sounds like it’s up to Allen if he wants to play or preserve his redshirt. While the regular season is nearly over, the Cats could have anywhere between 2-9 games left depending on how far they make it in the SEC Tournament and NCAA Tournament.
Is that enough for Allen to decide to play this late in the season? We’ll find out soon enough.
