The Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball team is moving on in the SEC Tournament, as they defeated Tennessee in Friday’s quarterfinal action, 86-65.

As usual, Rhyne Howard was the Cats’ leading scorer, as she finished with a team-high 24 points. Tatyana Wyatt added 14, while Sabrina Hines chipped in 12.

The Cats previously won the lone regular-season matchup with the Vols at home, 70-66. This one was never as close, as the 16th-ranked Wildcats picked up an important win ahead of the NCAA Tournament.

UK was able to take command in the second quarter, outscoring the Vols 27-15 to take a 44-28 lead into halftime and cruised to victory from there. The Cats forced 19 Vols turnovers while racking up nine steals and hitting 11/24 (45.8%) shots from deep.

Up next, the Cats will face the 2-seeded Mississippi State Bulldogs in Saturday’s semifinal action. UK was able to upset the Bulldogs at Memorial Coliseum in February, 73-62.

Go Cats!
