Grant Golden not an option for Kentucky, per report

Golden would have been one of the biggest transfers had he decided to leave Richmond.

Over the last week, Richmond forward Grant Golden has been mentioned as a potential transfer target for the Kentucky Wildcats.

However, KSR’s Jack Pilgrim reports that Golden won’t be an option, as the soon-to-be senior won’t be leaving Richmond.

Interestingly enough, this news comes just hours after Jon Rothstein reported that UK would host Richmond next season, so it looks like the Wildcats will face the All-Atlantic 10 pick in Rupp this year.

With UK set to lose Nick Richards and possibly EJ Montgomery, UK is in a world of hurt for frontcourt depth. They’ll likely explore the transfer market for at least one more big, whether it be a grad transfer or a regular transfer.

Remember, the NCAA is set to vote in July on allowing every college player to get one transfer at any point in their careers, so we could see a flood of players enter the transfer portal in the coming weeks and months.

There’s also the potential to add a high school recruit like Greg Brown, who decides on April 24th, as well as potential reclass options like Moussa Cisse, Jon Kuminga and Moussa Diabete.

And with the NBA Draft potentially being delayed, we’ll likely see the early-entry deadline extended as well, which means college rosters wouldn’t be finalized until well into July, especially if prospects withdraw and announce they’ll transfer, ala Reid Travis and Kerry Blackshear over the last two years.

All of this is why we probably shouldn’t expect UK to make any roster additions for at least several more weeks.
