Kentucky at No. 2 in CBS Sports’ early 2020-21 rankings

Could UK start as No. 2 for the third year in a row?

NCAA Basketball: Tennessee at Kentucky Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

As way-too-early 2020-21 college basketball rankings pour out, the Kentucky Wildcats are consistently ranked among the top 10.

Gary Parish of CBS Sports has the Cats ranked even higher than several others, as he has Kentucky at No. 2 in his way too early top 25 for next season.

When explaining his projection Parish wrote “Kentucky, like always, has multiple underclassmen who could stay or go. Right now, the projection here is that Nick Richards, Tyrese Maxey and Ashton Hagans will go, and that Immanuel Quickley will stay. But even people connected to the UK program will tell you this could go any number of ways. Either way, John Calipari’s Wildcats will be super-talented thanks to another top-ranked recruiting class. If Quickley returns and pairs with 5-star guards Terrence Clarke, BJ Boston and Devin Askew, Kentucky will have the nation’s most-talented backcourt and a real chance to win the second national title of the Calipari era.”

With uncertainty surrounding how NBA teams will conduct workouts and interviews for the NBA Draft, there’s a chance several of UK’s players with a draft decision to make could come back to team up with the nation’s top-rated recruiting class. Thus, this projection seems fair.

Here is Parish’s top 10.

  1. Gonzaga Bulldogs
  2. Kentucky Wildcats
  3. Creighton Bluejays
  4. Baylor Bears
  5. Villanova Wildcats
  6. Duke Blue Devils
  7. Virginia Cavaliers
  8. Houston Cougars
  9. Iowa Hawkeyes
  10. Kansas Jayhawks
