The recruitment of Greg Brown is nearing its end, as the five-star forward will reportedly make his college decision on April 24th, according to Corey Evans.
The Kentucky Wildcats are one of Brown’s finalists, but they’ve never been seen as the favorite for the top-10 recruit out of Austin, Texas. The Memphis Tigers were viewed as the leaders going into the fall, but the Texas Longhorns have gotten the most buzz recently.
Texas was viewed as the leader early in Brown’s recruitment, but Shaka Smart’s troubles in Austin led to him being on the hot seat entering the 2019-20 season. That uncertainty led to Brown trending elsewhere.
But Texas would go on to have a surprising resurgence that may have gotten them into the NCAA Tournament had it not been canceled, That’s led to Smart’s job seemingly being secured, so it’s not much of a surprise to see Texas is gaining momentum for the Austin native, whose parents both were athletes at the university.
As for Kentucky, it looks like a grad transfer or 2021 reclass are more realistic options for adding another big man for the 2020-21 season.
