There is a seemingly infinite amount of uncertainty in our lives right now, and next year’s Kentucky Basketball roster is no exception.
Nick Richards and Tyrese Maxey are almost certainly gone. Ashton Hagans will likely go as well. And at the end of the day, the Wildcats could just return a player or two and be starting completely over.
One huge area of need is in the post. Isaiah Jackson and Lance Ware look good coming in, but they are both 6-9. If EJ Montgomery does not return, that makes for a very small roster.
One potential fix for that could be Greg Brown, the highest ranked uncommitted big man in the 2020 class.
Unfortunately, the buzz is starting to point toward the University of Texas for Brown, who currently lives in Austin. College basketball analyst Andrew Slater logged a crystal ball prediction for Texas on 247Sports.com. Slater has been accurate almost 94% of the time in his predictions for the 2020 class.
Over in the Rivals FutureCast, Texas has picked up three straight predictions, including one from notable expert Corey Evans.
Brown has been pushing the idea that a decision is coming soon, and that is probably not good for Kentucky. While he was not as highly touted, this situation reminds me a lot of that of Jaxon Hayes. Kentucky looked good in his recruitment early, but it turned out that Texas was the choice all along.
You have to think that John Calipari is aware of his position with Brown, and if Kentucky is indeed out of the running Coach Cal is likely looking for other options, potentially in the transfer portal.
Brown’s decision will be in the coming weeks for sure, and the current Wildcats will be making their decisions not long after. Before we know it, this roster will start to take shape. It is now only a matter of the last few ingredients.
