Don’t expect to see many, if any sporting events over the next month, and that includes high school recruits.
On Thursday, it was announced that the 2020 McDonald’s All-American game was canceled. The event was slated for Wednesday, April 1st in Houston at the Toyota Center.
24 of the best prospects in the country were selected to play in the game, including a pair of Kentucky commits in Terrence Clarke and Brandon Boston.
This news came after the NCAA canceled the NCAA Tournament and the NBA suspended its season. There’s a real chance we don’t see any more 2020 recruits in action before college.
In addition, the 2020 Jordan Brand Classic that was originally scheduled for March 27th has been canceled due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
As we continue to navigate through the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, we are cancelling this year’s Jordan Brand Classic planned for March 27.— Jordan (@Jumpman23) March 12, 2020
Kentucky women’s basketball signee Treasure Hunt was going to participate in the event as well.
Jordan Brand took to Twitter to announce the news and had this to say:
“While we understand how disappointing this is for the athletes, their families, and the communities who were excited to participate, in everything we do, we must prioritize the health and safety of our employees, athletes and consumers”
They also announced that tickets purchased for the game would be refunded.
All in all, these are just two more big sporting events being called off due to the virus, and while it is disappointing, it is understandable, as the safety of everyone involved is far more important.
