Duke and Kansas withdraw from the NCAA Tournament, with the Jayhawks stopping athletics altogether.

Update: 2:55 PM

According to Jeff Goodman, Kansas has not “officially” pulled out of the NCAA Tournament

The Kansas Jayhawks and Duke Blue Devils have announced that it will withdraw from the NCAA Tournament in light of the Coronavirus pandemic. With these announcements, it’s only a matter of time before the whole event is canceled altogether.

Every major conference tournament was canceled today, after yesterday was one of the more crazier days in modern history in the sports world. With the NCAA opting, for now, to play the tournament with no fans, the NBA suspended operations, etc. the decision was made for the conference tournaments to just stop playing and avoid further spread.

The Jayhawks were the No. 1 team in the nation and were almost certainly going to lock up the No. 1 overall seed and Duke was slated for a good run as well, but both schools made the correct decision to withdraw from the tournament and Kansas has made the decision to stop athletics travel altogether.

The NCAA Tournament is almost certainly next.

Stay safe, everyone.
