We knew that John Calipari was putting more of an emphasis on recruiting, but it looks like the University of Kentucky decided to allocate more money into recruiting in 2019 as well.
According to a report from the Courier Journal, the University of Kentucky Basketball program increased its recruiting spending by 66 percent in 2018-2019, amounting to a total of $1.07 million, the most among any Power 5 program in the country, passing Indiana.
According to the report, Kentucky had spent between $600,000 and $650,000 each of the last five years. The reported time period ran from July 2018 to June 2019.
There aren’t any specific mentions as to what qualifies as a recruiting expense.
Kentucky Basketball wasn’t the only athletic program to see an increase in recruiting expenses. The football, swimming and diving programs (men and women), gymnastics, volleyball, baseball, tennis (men and women), and women’s golf programs all reported increases.
Kentucky’s total for all sports was only behind Georgia and Alabama in terms of Power 5 public schools.
