The Kentucky Wildcats are now in position to pass the Duke Blue Devils in the NCAA Tournament seeding.
That’s because Kentucky was able to defeat Auburn 73-66 earlier in the day to improve to 24-5 and win the SEC, while Duke fell in the final seconds to Virginia, 52-50. It’s the second-straight loss for the Blue Devils and their third defeat in four games as they’re now 23-6.
Coming into the day, the majority of Bracketology projections still had Duke ahead of the Wildcats in seeding, as the Blue Devils were the highest 3 seed at Bracket Matrix, whereas Kentucky was the highest 4 seed.
Seeing as how the Blue Devils have lost to a pair of bubble teams (Virginia and NC State) and a Wake Forest squad that may not make any postseason tournament, there’s a very good case for Kentucky to move ahead in the seed line.
Making things even better for Kentucky is that several other higher-seeded teams (via BM) lost today, including Baylor to TCU, Florida State to Clemson, and Villanova to Providence.
The Wildcats are going to need a lot of help to climb up to a 2 seed, and they got that today.
