The Kentucky Wildcats are currently sitting at No. 10 in the country as of the latest AP Poll released yesterday. However, that doesn’t stop both ESPN’s and CBS’ bracketology from having the Cats at a fairly low seed for their current ranking.
The latest ESPN Bracketology released today has Kentucky sitting at a No. 4 seed in the Midwest region, playing their first and second round games out in Sacramento, potentially facing a good Oregon Ducks squad in the round of 32.
Kentucky would be playing for a shot at the Final Four in Indianapolis. The only downside? It’s the hardest region with Maryland as the No. 2 seed, Louisville as the No. 3 seed, and Kansas as the No. 1 seed.
CBS released their latest projections yesterday, and they seem to be down on Kentucky more than ESPN is, with Kentucky still at a No. 5 seed, despite being ranked 10th in the country.
CBS projects Kentucky to be out on the west coast with Gonzaga as the No. 1 seed, Florida State as the No. 2 seed, Creighton as the No. 3 seed, and Oregon as the No. 4 seed. So Kentucky vs Oregon is looking like a highly anticipated second round game if Kentucky can’t get past the 4 or 5 seed mark.
Even more ironic? Kentucky would play Stephen F. Austin in the first round of the tournament, putting Kentucky as one of the more likely upsets in the first round. SFA beat Duke in Cameron Indoor earlier in the season. That is not coincidental.
If Kentucky can land a big win in Baton Rouge tonight and close out the regular season strong, along with winning the SEC tournament, I think a 2 or a 3 seed is in play.
USA Today’s bracketology is mostly the same as CBS with the wildcats heading out West, only as a 4 seed in this projection and likely facing Butler in the Round of 32:
SB Nation’s bracketology has the Wildcats as a 5 seed in the East Region:
A potential path of Northern Iowa, Penn State, San Diego State and Duke would certainly be a challenge, but not impossible.
