Twitter reactions to UK holding off Michigan State for Vince Marrow

The Cats survive a furious push from the Spartans for one of the best recruiters in college football.

Over the last two days, it felt like an actual game was being played between Kentucky and Michigan State.

That’s how important it was for the Wildcats to keep recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow, who the Spartans made a furious push to pry away from Lexington, as he’s been instrumental in bringing program legends like Lynn Bowden and Benny Snell to UK. Without Marrow, UK isn’t in the midst of one of the best periods in program history and in position to compete for an SEC East title in 2020.

The Spartans clearly thought Marrow would make a similar impact for them, as they were reportedly offering him a deal that would pay him around $1 million annually and make him one of, if not the highest-paid non-coordinator assistant in college football.

But this isn’t the Kentucky Football of old that didn’t have complete support from the university and athletics department. Now, UK is fully committed to making this program one of the best in the land, and that means opening up the checkbook in a big way.

Thankfully, they’ll do just that, as Marrow announced Friday that he’ll remain in Lexington, which means a very nice pay raise is coming soon from the school.

And of course, the news was broken with UK’s signature ‘Yahtzee’ tweet from head coach Mark Stoops, who wasn’t about to lose his top recruiter.
