Well, the Kentucky Wildcats drop their third game in a row, this time to a Georgia Tech squad that lost games to Mercer and Georgia State to open the season.
Kentucky just looks bad right now, folks. They are a bad team with a bad play-style and bad mechanics and fundamentals. There is no sense of urgency whenever they take the court, their offensive and defensive awareness is non-existent and they’re just an overall bad team to start the season, and there seems to be no future in sight for this team that is positive.
And the schedule doesn’t get any easier for this team, as they take on Notre Dame, UCLA, and Louisville in the upcoming weeks, with what is now a real chance that they lose every single one of those games and solidify what would be the worst start to a season under John Calipari at Kentucky.
Here’s what Twitter had to say regarding the Cats’ meltdown:
One of the most inexcusable, embarrassing losses of the John Calipari era at Kentucky

Cal has to completely change his team-building philosophy. This is just embarrassing, Billy Gillispie-type decimation

I miss pre-checkerboard Kentucky basketball. pic.twitter.com/WJXN36hyHS

You would have three guys on the floor that know this isn't acceptable. https://t.co/F7xweHmNrV

To allow yourself to be absolutely boat raced by Georgia Tech is just embarrassing

Calipari usually turns it around. But it seems hard to see this year....
If you told me Boston and Clarke were 6 of 10 from 3, no chance I’d believe Kentucky is getting its ass handed to it. But here we are.

Cal after the game: “Don’t be mad at these kids be mad at me.”
— Big Blue Drew (@BigBlueDrew33) December 6, 2020
Me: “Ok sure.”
Askew should not be playing college basketball right now.
— Jackson Hancock (@NotJackson00) December 6, 2020
This is the loudest I’ve ever seen the “John Calipari should be fired” portion of the fan base on Twitter during his tenure here.
— Travis Graf (@TravisGraf_) December 6, 2020
Dark days, and watching this team, sunshine doesn’t appear to be in the near future.
The Covid is clearly too bad to continue playing college basketball this season. Might as well shut it down
— Steven Romines (@Sromines) December 7, 2020
This was one of the more embarrassing and listless performances by UK in the Calipari Era.
— Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanHoops) December 7, 2020
They are young. No doubt. But they didn’t fight today.
Kentucky now 1-3 after three consecutive losses to Richmond, KU and Georgia Tech.
Knee-jerk reactions are trendy, but idk man...the old days of Cal seem LONG gone. It’s a shooting driven game, the complacency seems real as long as guys get drafted, and idk it just seems overplayed. UK fans are spoiled but this certainly isn’t UK’s standard.

Cal just doesn’t have any good answers right now. https://t.co/6gzLPBIuI2
— Jason Marcum (@marcum89) December 7, 2020
Kentucky is shooting the ball decently tonight, it just turns out the problem with this team all along was basic basketball IQ, awareness, and overall effort lol

I'm a HUGE Coach Calipari supporter. This is a very, very disappointing answer. I'm a random guy that CHOOSES to watch film because I am insane. I knew exactly what they were going to do. Not a brag, it just is easy to see. They played 2 games. No secret. This is a BAD response. https://t.co/Q17nL6cCwI

Kentucky with 21 turnovers today. The zone kept them off balance. Devin Askew not sure, thinks he might get trapped, picks up his dribble while unguarded. Two pass possession. Moses Wright too strong for Olivier Sarr throughout. @KentuckyRivals pic.twitter.com/zh4DoICIXO

Davion Mintz on 21 TOs: “Felt like we kind of panicked.”

In defense of this Kentucky team:
— Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanHoops) December 7, 2020
1) Not one player who played today saw a single minute on last year’s UK team.
2) They didn’t have nearly as much time as usual in the summer.
3) They have gone against some veteran-laden teams - especially Richmond and Georgia Tech.

I still believe this Kentucky team has the pieces to be an elite defensive team - even though they’re not showing it tonight.
