The Kentucky Wildcats were originally set to host South Carolina tonight in what would have been the SEC opener for both teams.
However, that game was postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Gamecocks program.
Once that game was postponed, UK attempted to find a new non-conference opponent to face before what is now their SEC opener Saturday at Mississippi State.
John Calipari was unable to find a new opponent to play in an official game, but it sounds like he found someone to scrimmage against today.
According to Kyle Tucker of The Athletic, UK held a private scrimmage against nearby Transylvania today.
Kentucky did not add a game this week, but it is scrimmaging against in-town Division III Transylvania at this very moment. Chance to work on that offensive execution Calipari talked a ton about yesterday.

The Pioneers, who play in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, are basically across the street from UK in Lexington, so it makes sense they’re who Calipari decided would be a good opponent to scrimmage today.
It also helps that the Wildcats played Transylvania on several occasions under Calipari. UK had exhibition games vs. the Pioneers during the 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2018 seasons.
It doesn’t sound like we’ll get any kind of box score or highlights of the scrimmage, so the most we can hope for is that everyone made it out of the game healthy.
It would be interesting to know if point guard Terrence Clarke (ankle) or forward Keion Brooks (calf) were able to go as they battle injuries, as well as if forward Cam’Ron Fletcher played after taking some time away from the team. Calipari has already said it’s doubtful Fletcher will play Saturday against the Bulldogs, so I doubt he played today.
We’ll let you know if any more details on the scrimmage come out today.
Shades of their “secret” game the two schools held back on 11-JAN-1906. The two teams met each other at the YMCA on Mill Street. State (UK) at time claimed they were playing YMCA because the Transylvania (KU) faculty had formally dissolved the KU basketball team. https://t.co/GlRBcAsDt6 pic.twitter.com/LRzcVlsaWT
